Kenco is expanding its warehouse automation lab, which will grow to 30,000 square feet, according to FreightWaves. The primary goal of this expansion is to achieve scale in testing new technologies.

The company plans to test around 30 different types of robots within this enlarged facility. The initiative focuses on evaluating vendor-neutral systems and integrated warehouse workflows.

Ainsley Williams from FreightWaves reported that the purpose of these tests is to reduce the risks associated with deploying new automation solutions in actual operational environments.

The testing encompasses various warehouse activities, including trailer unloading, pallet movements, and depalletizing processes. This comprehensive approach aims to ensure smooth integration.

By thoroughly testing these systems in a controlled lab setting, Kenco seeks to validate their effectiveness and compatibility before they are implemented in live operations, as FreightWaves indicated.
