Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage (CCUS) has emerged as a vital method for decarbonization, particularly for industries that are difficult to abate, such as oil and gas, power, cement, and steel, GlobalData reported.

The analysis by GlobalData indicated that oil and gas companies continue to be key participants in the CCUS sector. This is despite the various challenges associated with project delivery.

As of June 2026, over 70% of both operational and planned carbon capture facilities were linked to energy assets. This figure is based on the total count of facilities.

The report highlighted that oil and gas companies are prominent among the entities adopting these carbon capture technologies.
