US natural gas prices climbed to approximately $2.91 per MMBtu on Thursday, marking their highest level in a month, according to Hellenic Shipping News. This increase was attributed to forecasts predicting several more weeks of hot weather, which are expected to boost cooling demand.
The Commodity Weather Group indicated that temperatures significantly above average are anticipated across the eastern two-thirds of the United States. This weather pattern is projected to last from August 31 through September 4, contributing to the heightened demand outlook.
The rise in prices reflects market reactions to these weather predictions, as warmer temperatures typically lead to increased use of air conditioning and, consequently, higher natural gas consumption for power generation. This sustained demand expectation has influenced the recent price movements in the US natural gas market.
