Chinese shipbuilder Nantong CIMC Sinopacific Offshore & Engineering (CIMC SOE) has started the construction of two new 20,000-cbm LNG bunker vessels, Hellenic Shipping News reported. These vessels are intended to expand the LNG bunker vessel fleet for GSX Energy.
The new vessels will be equipped with Wärtsilä dual-fuel main engines. This engine technology allows the vessels to operate using both conventional fuels and liquefied natural gas, enhancing their operational flexibility.
Additionally, the vessels will feature 1,300-kilowatt (kW) shaft generators, as stated by Hellenic Shipping News. These generators are designed to produce electricity onboard by utilising the rotation of the propeller shaft, contributing to the vessels' power generation capabilities.
These two vessels represent the third and subsequent additions to the fleet. The construction signifies an ongoing expansion in the capacity for LNG bunkering operations, supporting the growing demand for LNG as a marine fuel.
