Container Terminal Altenwerder (CTA) has introduced a new rail gantry crane, manufactured by Künz, which was delivered and installed last year. This new crane has been specifically designed for remote-controlled operation, according to Hellenic Shipping News.
In addition to the new installation, an existing rail gantry crane at CTA underwent a retrofit as part of the terminal's upgrade efforts. Hellenic Shipping News reported that this retrofitted crane now supports both manual operation from its cabin and remote control.
The implementation of remote-control technology for these cranes marks a significant development in the terminal's rail handling processes. The new Künz crane is fully remote-controlled, while the upgraded existing crane offers dual operational modes.
